Shopify change history: what Actorly tracks, and what it can't.

Know what you are getting before you install. Actorly lists 27 parts of a Shopify store. It tracks 25 and does not track 2 yet. For each part: when a change shows up, whether you get the old and new value, whether it can say who changed it, and whether you can put a field back. The "no" answers stay on the page.

Generated from the product's coverage registry, not typed: app commit 3a3ebf5. "Some fields" is never "all fields".

How to read the table.

YesBuilt for this part of your store.
Some fieldsBuilt for a stated set of fields, not all of them.
When Shopify reports itDepends on Shopify reporting it, so a name is not guaranteed.
Not yetPlanned and not built. It changes here when it ships.
Not possibleIt can't happen. The cell gives the reason, and says whether the limit is Shopify's or Actorly's own choice.
"On a scheduled check"Shopify sends no change notice for these 8 kinds, so Actorly looks on a schedule: weekly on Actorly Watch, daily on Actorly Restore. A change appears at the next check, not the moment it happens.

Why it sometimes says Unknown.

When something changes, Shopify tells Actorly what, but usually not who. Actorly lines each product change up with an entry in Shopify's own activity log for the same record, within 90 seconds. A clear match shows a name and how sure Actorly is. No clear match shows Unknown.

For some kinds of record Shopify keeps no record of who at all. There the change is Unknown from the start: Actorly can tell you what changed and when, but not who. That is Shopify's limit, and the table says so.

LikelyAn entry in Shopify's activity log matched this change closely in time.Likely
PossibleAn entry in Shopify's activity log was near this change in time. The match is weak.Possible
UnknownShopify does not record who made this change. This will not change later.Unknown
Unknown is never replaced by a later guess. "Not attributed yet" and "Investigating" are waiting states, shown while Actorly checks.

Questions about coverage.

Can Actorly see theme changes?

It records which theme is published and what each theme is called, so publishing a different theme is dated and kept. It does not compare the files inside a theme, and Shopify does not record who published one. Putting a theme back is not offered: Shopify lets an app change a theme only with an exemption it grants, and Actorly does not hold one. See the Themes row.

Does Actorly track inventory?

Yes. It records inventory changes and shows the quantity before and after at each location, and Shopify tells it when they happen. It cannot say who changed a stock count, because Shopify's activity log has no entry for that kind of record. It does not put a stock count back: stock moves between a change and your review, so writing an old quantity back could create a false stock position. See the Inventory row.

Does it record discount changes?

Yes: a discount's title, status and start and end dates, with the value before and after. The discount amount is not compared, because Shopify's eight kinds of discount describe their value in eight different ways. Shopify does record who changed a discount and Actorly does not read it yet, so a discount change shows what and when, not who. Actorly does not put discounts back. See the Discounts row.

Does it track store settings?

Yes. It records the store name, contact and account emails, currency, timezone, weight unit, tax handling, primary domain, store owner, Shopify plan and the date each legal policy was last edited, with the values before and after. Shopify does not record who changed a store setting and gives an app no way to change these settings, so Actorly cannot put one back. See the Store settings row.

Why does it say Unknown?

When something changes, Shopify tells Actorly what, but usually not who. For product changes, Actorly looks for a matching entry in Shopify's own activity log. With no clear match it shows Unknown, and Unknown is never replaced by a later guess. For some kinds of record Shopify keeps no record of who at all, so the answer is Unknown from the start.

How soon does a change appear?

Shopify sends Actorly a notice for 17 of the 25 tracked parts, and Actorly then reads the record again to see exactly what changed. For the other 8, Shopify sends no notice, so Actorly checks on a schedule: weekly on Actorly Watch, daily on Actorly Restore. A change appears at the next check. Actorly quotes no delay figure for either.

Start the record today.

Your history starts the day you install, so the best time is before the next edit. Actorly Watch is free and records the same 25 tracked parts as Actorly Restore.
